Once viewed predominantly as a defense capability, unmanned systems are now being tested and operated for a wide variety of applications from precision agriculture to offshore oil and gas inspection. The possibilities for these technologies are limitless, and every day industry leaders and experts are pushing them to new limits and creating new market opportunities that once seemed impossible. While defense applications still remain a key area of focus, we are quickly embracing new applications, ideas and technologies that will continue to drive the industry forward.
Here at AUVSI we are working diligently to keep you up-to-date on the latest industry trends, opportunities and information. At AUVSI’s Unmanned Systems Program Review 2013, to be held 12-14 February at The Ritz Carlton, Tysons Corner in McLean, Va., you will hear from a fantastic line-up of experts who are paving the way for the unmanned systems industry. Our 2013 speakers will be delivering presentations and taking part in discussions spanning not only military opportunities and programs, but also looking into the future and providing their thoughts on how the unmanned systems industry landscape will look in 5 to 10 years. They will also be addressing key issues including the NextGen Air Transportation System and its impact on UAS integration efforts in unrestricted airspace, the emerging issue of COLREGS for unmanned underwater and surface vehicles, and challenges related to increased autonomy in ground robotics.
While we are working to expand the scope of this year’s event, you can still expect to hear from a number of defense officials and decision-makers who will be discussing their latest programs and opportunities for industry participation. Representatives from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps will be delivering insightful and information-packed presentations addressing warfighter needs, technological challenges and future program plans. The 2013 program will also feature experts from several non-DoD organizations including NOAA, NSF and NASA. Last but not least, we will be hosting several international speakers addressing the latest unmanned systems trends and opportunities emerging overseas.
The 2013 speaker line-up is represented by some of the most renowned DoD leaders in the industry who will be delivering expert presentations and participating on interactive panel discussions. Our 2013 featured speakers include Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert, Rear Adm. Jonathan W. White, Oceanographer and Navigator of the Navy and director, Space and Maritime Domain Awareness, Maj. Gen. Charles Lyon, director of operations, Headquarters Air Combat Command U.S. Air Force, Brig. Gen. (Promotable) Robert M. Dyess, Jr., director, Force Development Directorate, G8 Force and Mr. Dyke Weatherington, deputy director, Unmanned Warfare, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (OUSD) AT&L to name a few. We will also have industry experts and speakers from the civil sector as well, including Mr. Steve Markofski, Corporate Planning, Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., Dr. Peter W. Singer, senior fellow and director, Brookings 21st Century Defense Initiative and Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan, assistant secretary of Commerce for Environmental Observation & Prediction and deputy administrator and acting chief scientist, NOAA along with many others.
